The 49th Annual Heart Fund Show was held this past Saturday, February 25th in the Ellijay Elementary School auditorium. The local fundraiser is Gilmer County’s longest running fundraiser and is in honor of the late Morgan Cantrell and helps raise money for the American Heart Association (AHA).
Some of the musicians who performed at this year’s show were show-veterans; Vic and Larry Davis, Ralph Chancey, Floyd Scott, Tim Parker, Hickory Wind, and younger musicians Brett Cantrell and Rebecca Hood. Even the always entertaining, loveable jokester Elmo Pickhandle made an appearance.
As always, homemade cakes were auctioned off at this year’s show to help raise proceeds for the AHA. The show organizer Russell Hood said that the show raised a total of $5,177 and 4,000 was sent to the heart association after expenses. Hood also said they may have another thousand dollars coming in other proceeds.
