DUI Demonstration At Gilmer High School

On Friday, March 30th, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s department and students gathered at the side parking lot of Gilmer County High School.The purpose of the Drinking and Driving Road Course was to bring awareness and education to students about how to make responsible decisions. With Spring Break and Prom being right around the corner, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s department wanted to teach teenagers the dangers of drinking and driving.

Sheriff Nicholson states:

“We love these types of programs. Anything we can do to save life of a teenager is worth our efforts. Prom is supposed to be a milestone happy event in a teenager’s life. Our goal is just that and not a tragedy.”

During the seminar, students got to participate in an alcohol awareness course conducted by the Gilmer County Sheriff’s department that demonstrated the effects of driving under the influence of alcohol. As part of the course, the students were asked to wear special goggles that impair vision just like alcohol does at various blood alcohol levels.
