On Friday, May 11th, Gilmer County held its annual Relay for Life event at the Gilmer High School football field.The event sponsored each year by the American Cancer Society features local businesses and organizations raising money for the fight against cancer.

Some of the fundraisers at the event this year were the Womanless Beauty Pageant and the Pie in the Face fundraiser with Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson. Together the fundraisers were very successful with the Womanless Beauty Pageant raising $2100 for the event.

23 Teams together raised a total of $50,856. The top three teams were Ellijay Elementary raising $6,990;Team Walmart raising $5,644; and Sunlight Baptist Church raising $4,320.
