Continuation of Drug Investigation Nets Another Marijuana Discovery

Press Release: Sheriff Nicholson releases the following information:

On Thursday, May 24, 2012, as a continuation of the investigation into the indoor marijuana grow from Talona Terrace, agents of the Zell Miller Mountain Parkway Drug Task Force, along with Gilmer County deputies, executed a search warrant at the residence of Roberto Diaz off of New Hope Road. Upon entering the residence, the deputies and agents found yet another extremely complex indoor marijuana grow.

Approximately 50 mature marijuana plants with an estimated value of $125,000 were seized. Deputies also found evidence that the residence, unlike the Talona Terrace residence, was going to be a packaging and distribution location for the marijuana.

Roberto Diaz was not at home during the execution. Warrants have been issued on Diaz, as well as, Ariday Cuevas-Sosa, and their arrests should be forthcoming. In addition to this grow, Diaz has been charged in connection with the Talona Lake Terrace grow as well. DTF agents still expect more arrests to follow in this investigation.

Sheriff Nicholson stated,

“Gilmer law enforcement in the last two weeks has dealt a substantial blow to the illegal drug trade. Our Drug Task Force agents and deputies are digging hard into this operation, because we understand the repercussions of allowing the organized drug cartels to set up in our peaceful community. I want to give the ZMMPDTF a lot of credit for continuing to dig and not just riding the glory of the first case.”
