On May 25th, many residents of Gilmer County, had a chance to sample some of the mouthwatering foods Ellijay has to offer at the 7th annual “Taste of Ellijay”.
The “Taste of Ellijay” is a special event organized by the Chamber of Commerce which allows for residents of Gilmer County to sample food from local restaurants.

Many people were seen at the event gathered round the streets of Ellijay chewing, biting, and nibbling down on some of the food the city had to offer.

Some of the food being enjoyed by the people at the event were fresh off the table chicken burritos from El Burrito to Go, smoked bbq wings from Wolf Creek Canyon Bar-B-Que, and bbq blue cheese burgers from Ellijay’s newest restaurant the Southern Twist.

Also, The Cartecay River Trading Company showed off its Big Green Egg Smoker, with smoked ham and grilled salmon, and Gilmer County’s first winery, Cartecay Vineyards, gave people a chance to taste their authentic Cartecay wine.

The event lasted from 5-8 on North Main Street and featured all together about 20 different restaurants and food purveyors from downtown Ellijay and East Ellijay.

President of the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce Paige Green said of the event, “The whole goal is really to promote our restaurants so that people come in and sample foods and maybe a restaurant they haven’t been to before hoping they will go and patronize that restaurant.”

Karleen Ferguson, tourism and special events coordinator for the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce said about 2,000 people turned out to the event, adding they had so many people come to the event they had to recycle tickets!
