John Henry Carr : Obituary

Mr. John Henry Carr age 85 of Ellijay died Thursday May 31, 2012 at his home after a short illness.

Mr. Carr was born on November 3, 1926 to the late Owen K. Carr and Ima Guise. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Joe and Glen Carr and a sister Sherry. John was born in Pahokee, FL where he grew up and attended Pahokee High School. John then was drafted into the Army and served in occupied Japan for one year. After returning home John married his wife Doris, they have been married for 65 years and have three children. John attended the academy of hairdressing in Chicago, IL, where he earned a degree in advanced hairdressing. He then became head hairdresser for Marshall Field Beauty Salon in Chicago, IL. In his second career he became manager and salesman for Singer Sewing Machine Company where he was voted employee of the year. He worked in Hammond, IN and West Palm Beach, Fl for Singer Sewing Machine Stores for twenty five years. John next joined the staff at Glades Mercantile Company, where he worked in their four stores in Pahokee, Belle Glade, Clearwater and Okeechobee, FL where he worked in management and sales till 1987. The next five years he worked at J.R. Reynolds, until he retired to Ellijay. In Ellijay he worked for Ingles grocery store till he was 75 years old.

John is survived by his wife Doris Carr of the home. Three children, Son, Kent and daughter-in-law Maria, daughter, Karen and son-in-law Paul and son Kevin and daughter-in-law Virginia. Grandchildren, Robert and wife Jenn, Ricky and mate Patrick, Katie and husband Jim. Two great grandchildren Lezzy and Tommy. Sister-in-laws Mary and Ruth. Nephew, Joe, Jr., niece Glenda Kay. Many nieces, nephews, friends, family and his beloved cats. We will all miss him very much.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Homeward Bound Pet Rescue at P.O. Box 792 Ellijay, GA 30540. The body was cremated and no services are planned.
