The East Ellijay City Council signed a resolution on June 19th that will be sent to the Department of Justice to obtain a pre-clearance in order to put a special referendum on an upcoming ballot that will give East Ellijay voters a chance to vote for or against the Sunday sales of distilled spirits and other alcoholic beverages by the drink in licensed restaurants and the Sunday package sales by retailers of beer and wine.East Ellijay Mayor Mack West told FYN that once the pre-clearance is obtained they will then notify the Gilmer County Board of Registrars to put the referendum on an East Ellijay ballot. The East Ellijay Mayor said they should have the pre-clearance back at least in time to put the referendum on the ballot before the November election.
