Chairman’s Report

Saturday July 7th, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. I have scheduled a Town Hall meeting to be held in the Jury Assembly Room of the Gilmer County Courthouse. The purpose is to give you, the public, my personal response to the Grand Jury Report. This will by my personal response and with all due respect I encourage the news media to attend and report on this meeting, especially ETC, The Times Courier and Fetch Your News.

This meeting will be very important to you regardless of your opinion of the condition of our county and how it is being run. No matter if you approve or disapprove of how things are being handled, now or in the past, I will try to cover where we have come from, where we are and where we can go. Also I will address where we spend our money and where we can save money without losing anything we now have in place. I will try to touch on things we need and want and how we intend to accomplish those goals.

I would encourage you to attend this meeting even if you say nothing or do nothing other than listen to what others are thinking. We can improve Gilmer County in all areas if we simply work together. Again, this meeting will be held on Saturday July 7th, at 9:00 a.m. in the Gilmer County Courthouse Jury Assembly Room.

On Monday July 9th, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. we will hold a Town Hall meeting on the T-SPLOST Tax that you will be asked to vote on at the July 31st election date. The sole purpose of this meeting is to pass along information about the 1% sales tax and what it will cost and what it will do. This is a regional vote which will have far reaching effects on our part of the state of Georgia.

There will be different groups at this meeting expressing their views on this vote and you will need this information on July 31st to help you make a knowledgeable decision on a very important vote. Please attend and be better informed. Again this meeting will be held Monday July 9th, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. in the Gilmer County Courthouse Jury Assembly Room.
