Civil Air Patrol Members Attend BOC Meeting

The Gilmer County Board of Commissioners heard from the 507 Ellijay Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol during the citizen comments session of the agenda on 28 June 2012.Six members of the squadron, seniors and cadets, were in attendance during the session as part of their continuing education into the working the Gilmer County government. They listened attentively as commissioners made recommendations for services, discussed bids, service providers past performance and contract awards supported by bids submitted by the appropriate providers.

As the evening concluded, 1Lt. Don Murray, Public Affairs Officer for the 507th, addressed the commissioners and audience thanking the commission for their support, recognizing the difficulties they face as they manage the county and applauding their indulgence while the Civil Air Patrol uses a part of the airport facilities. In closing, Lt. Murray stated “we could not be a part of this community or train our members without your support”.

In closing remarks, Commission Chair Sanford stated, “we appreciate the Civil Air Patrol, the hard work you do, and we don’t know how important the squadron is until we need them”.
