The Boring Legacy
Opinion August 15, 2012
I know these things usually come the day after the movie; however, I’ve had some trouble wrapping my mind around the boredom that was “The Bourne Legacy,” not to mention I’ve had some events that needed to be covered and so forth. “The Bourne Legacy” can best be described with this gem from Swamp Thang,
“I feel like it was suspenseful because we kept waiting for something to happen.”
I could not agree with Swamp Thang more. The movie was suspenseful, but only because I was waiting for somebody to finally get punched in the face. SPOILER ALERT: The entire movie is basically three scenes, a training scene, a plane flight, and a car chase. That’s it.
I’m sorry, but if this is the legacy of Jason Bourne, then maybe it’s best that he keep his amnesia.
The story is set in the same time line as “The Bourne Ultimatum” and centers around cleaning up the mess that is the public’s knowledge of the assassin program, that Jason Bourne made famous, “Treadstone.”
Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weis have good chemistry as an assassin and scientist trying to survive the purge; however, there just isn’t enough action to keep one truly invested in their survival chances.
I must admit that I was deeply disappointed by this movie. I love the Bourne series but this one should have been aborted.
