The Gilmer High School Lady Bobcats softball team, fresh off of two mercy ruled losses on the road, at Lumpkin and Fannin respectively, looked to rebound in the team’s first home stand of the season. The “Cats” bats were paused by the paws of the Lady Panthers of Union, 9-1, and the Lady Rebels of Fannin, rose in the sixth to secure a 6-3 win for the visitors.The Lady “Cats” home opener was anything but a crowd pleaser, as the Lady Panthers’ offense could not be contained while the home team amassed only one run. Freshmen Kaylee Deyton scored on Meghan Flowers RBI single.
Gilmer showed some gumption when facing the Lady Rebels of Fannin; the second meeting between the two rivals in as many weeks.
The home team lead 3-2 going into the sixth, thanks to a home run from Deyton, however, the Lady Rebels scored four runs in the sixth, to secure the 6-3 victory.
The Lady Bobcats will next face Pickens High School, on the road, for the first region game of the year.
