The Gilmer County Tax Assessors’ Office lost a years-long case this week against Lois Spence. Started in 2008, the case centered on the dispute of Spence’s 2006 property value. During the trial, which started on Monday, the Gilmer County Tax Assessors Office sought to prove the 2006 value of Spence’s property was $117,711, based on fair market value. According to the verdict delivered yesterday, September 19th, the jury determined the Gilmer Tax Assessors’ Office did not prove this was the value of the property based on the evidence given during the trial. The jury did determine, however, that the value of the property based on the evidence was $52,000.
What does this mean for Gilmer County taxpayers? This is yet to be determined.
