Gilmer sends Dalton home with a win. Gilmer could not hold their lead and put Dalton away in the fourth quarter. Dalton blocked a Manny Lopez field goal attempt.

Bobcats led late in the fourth quarter 21-14. With only two minutes left Manny Lopez missed a 28 yard field goal attempt. This would have made it a two possession game for Dalton. Instead Dalton had two minutes left to go down the field and score and that is exactly what happened. Dalton tied the game 21-21 sending the game into overtime.

Dalton went first in overtime. After a couple of penalties it looked like the Bobcats defense was going to hold them. But the Catamounts found the end zone on a rushing play. 28-21

Now it was the Bobcats turn. The Bobcats started on the fifteen yard line. Their first two plays made it look easy and gave the Bobcats a first down on the one yard line. Now with first and goal on the one Coach Tankersley was probably thinking about the decision to go for two when the Bobcats scored. Dalton’s defense would help coach with that decision.

Bobcats were unsuccessful with three attempts up the middle. Fourth and goal on the one and this could be the final play of the game. Would coach try to go up the middle a fourth time? Thinking the Catamounts would remain bunched up for the middle Tankersley tried to stretch the field out and send Kephart around the left side. Dalton’s defense read the play and stopped Kephart on the two yard line to end the game.
Bobcats met a Catamount goal line stance that will be talked about for a long time. Bobcat fans left the stadium in a state of shock wondering how Gilmer let this game get away from them.
