The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is preparing for the Georgia Apple Festival by getting ready to participate in the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce (GCC) Apple Arts Festival. In a DDA meeting on Wednesday, October 10th, the Ellijay DDA board met to discuss how to develop more businesses in the downtown community.
In her manager’s report, DDA Manager Mona Lowe addressed the DDA’s plans for a booth in the Apple Arts Festival to be held by the Gilmer Chamber of Commerce. Lowe said the DDA plans to share a booth at the Apple Arts Festival with the Gilmer County Historical Society. Started by the GCC, the annual festival focuses on the apple culture of Gilmer County. Local Painter John Christian and local apple house, the Red Apple Barn are other expected vendors to participate in the event
According to GCC Tourism and Special Event’s Coordinator Karleen Ferguson, a new attraction has also been added to the Apple Arts festival this year, the Apple Alley Café. The Apple Alley Café plans to serve six different types of food, such as barbeque, food grilled off the Big Green Egg, and homemade ice cream made from a special steam engine.
The Apple Arts Festival will take place on Broad Street from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13th and on Sunday, October 14th, and is also scheduled for the following weekend of the Georgia Apple Festival.
