Gilmer County Swears in Elected Officials

Gilmer County Probate Judge Anita Mullins swore in new county Tax Commissioner Rebecca Marshall and Clerk of Superior Court Glenda Sue Johnson this morning. For newly elected Tax Commissioner Rebecca Marshall it will be her first term as the new County Tax Commissioner after former Tax Commissioner Melba Bennett announced she was leaving the office this past year. Marshall, who comes from the Tax Commissioner’s book keeping department, won the Tax Commissioner’s position in a heated race which went to an August runoff with then candidate Cheila Starnes Bailey. Marshall, told FYN this morning she was humbled by the amount of votes she received in Gilmer County,

“I would like to thank all the voters of Gilmer County for electing me for this post,”

said Marshall,

“I am going to do my very best to do the best job that I can do.”

Also, this morning Clerk of Superior Court Glenda Sue Johnson was sworn in after Marshall.
Johnson, who won reelection, told FYN she has been honored to serve the citizens of Gilmer County as Superior Court Clerk since 1996.

“It is still very exciting and very humbling,”

said Superior Court Clerk Johnson,

“I appreciate getting to be the clerk and serving the people of Gilmer County.”

The Gilmer County Probate Office is expected to swear in more elected officials this afternoon including reelected Sheriff of Gilmer County Stacy Nicholson and newly elected Post 1 Commissioner Randy Bell.
