As 2012 ends FYN is taking time to look back at some of the highlights of 2012 and peek ahead to what awaits in 2013.As we look back at all the things that’s happened in the Gilmer County community for 2012, it is hard for us not to not smile at some of the things we have had the chance to cover. From the first year of the Ellijay economic effort “First Fridays” started to promote downtown growth, to Ellijay’s most successful Apple Festival ever with over 60,000 visitors, to FYN’s busy coverage of 3rd Grade Writing Contest at Ellijay Elem and Mountain View Elem, it sure has been an exciting year!

However, we can’t forget some of the other things we have covered as well, such as the year long
Fetch Fitness Challenge with the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, Ellijay’s Scare Crow Invasion, and a new building for the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce. Also, we can’t do a year in review, without mentioning the great year for the Gilmer County Saddle Club. Man, time sure does fly!

Overall, we hope you enjoyed the year just as much as we have, but most of all, we hope 2013 is just as fun!

Gilmer County’s “Cats” brought the thunder in 2012. State and Mountain league titles were won in wrestling and football. GHS had state tournament runs in football and basketball . Records fell like an end of disco party. Many of Gilmer’s finest athletes signed scholarships to continue college careers. In 2012 Gilmer sports proved the Chamber of commerce correct as the phrase, “Gilmer’s Got It” rang true.
