R. Lamar Burnett, age 69 of Ellijay formerly of Atlanta went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 6, 2013.Lamar was born on February 3, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia.

He is survived by his wife, Dorinda Burnett also of Ellijay, a son Jeff Burnett of Texas, daughter Carla Brannon Poe of Fayetteville, GA, Grandsons Mason Burnett of Charlotte NC, Austin Burnett of Acworth and Keegan Brannon of Waleksa, Sister and Brother-in-Law, Virginia and Ray Pearson of Oxford and Sister and Brother-in-law, Gail and Gary Richardson of Conyers, Nephew Derek Richardson of Conyers and Nieces Robin Singleton of Temple, and Julie Kimes of Oceanside, CA, as well as several great nieces.

Lamar was predeceased in death by his loving parents Raymond and Frances Burnett, both of Lithonia.

Lamar graduated from O’Keefe High School in Atlanta in 1961 and was a Vietnam Era Veteran. He was employed for 20 years at the Atlanta Journal Constitution as a pressman. During his lifetime, Lamar enjoyed traveling, motorcycles, woodworking, and dancing. He also built churches in other parts of the country so others would have a place of worship with the Church Builders Group from Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday January 8, 2013 at 2pm from the Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington, GA, with Rev. Jim Martin officiating and Military Rites by the US Army.

The family will receive friends Monday January 7th from 4pm until 9pm at the Bernhardt Funeral Home.

If desired in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Homeward Bound Pet Rescue of Gilmer County @ P.O. Box 792 Ellijay, GA 30540 in memory of Mr. Burnett.
