Mrs. Joan E. Boyd age 73 of Quarles Lane, Ellijay died Wednesday Feb.13, 1013.
Mrs. Boyd was born August 23,1939 in Atlanta the daughter of the late J.O. and Doris Simpson Strickland. She was a retired Law enforcement officer, she worked in the 1980’s with the Ellijay Police Department and was the first Female Patrol Officer in Gilmer County, later she went to Cherokee County and was the first road patrol officer in Cherokee County, after her retirement, she and her husband were managers of Doll Mountain Camp Ground.
Survivors include: Husband: Al Boyd, of the home; Daughters and Son in-law: Johanna & Edward Kimbley, El Paso TX, Cheryl Teague, Ellijay; Sisters: Wylene Stamps and Linda Strickland, both of Ellijay; Brother: Rudolph Strickland, 5 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday February 17th at 2pm from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Wayne Strickland officiating. Interment will be Monday February 18th at 1pm from the Noah’s Ark Church Cemetery in Jonesboro, GA.
The family will receive friends Saturday February 16th from 11am until 9pm at the Bernhardt Funeral Home.
