After a lengthy illness Dr. James Weldon Burleson, 83, retired anesthesiologist, departed this life at home in Cherry Log, GA on February 26, 2013. He was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Sweetwater, TX to Mr. & Mrs. Alan (Gene) Burleson, who preceded him in death. He was raised by his paternal grandparents on a working cattle ranch. He was the youngest of four children.
Dr. Burleson was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Billie Brent Burleson Hill. Survivors include his beloved and loving wife, Sonya; cherished and faithful canine companion, Buddy; sons: David (Gail) Burleson, Paul (Angie) Burleson; daughters: Tina (Peter) Crooks, Nancy Fenwick; stepchildren: Angel (Jon) Kusch, Damon (Carla) McClurg, Crystal McClurg; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial celebration of Dr. Burleson’s life will be held Saturday March 9 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Blue Ridge, GA at 11am, followed by visitation/celebration downstairs in Thomas Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Georgia Mountains Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, GA 30143; Faith Presbyterian Church, PO Box 2668, Blue Ridge, GA 30513; St. Luke’s Episcopal Church PO Box 1821, Blue Ridge, GA 30513; or an animal shelter of choice.
