The arraignment of Marcos Ramirez was postponed today. Initially, the arraignment was scheduled for Today at 1:30 P.M. at the Gilmer County Courthouse, set by Judge Weaver at the close of the April 12th bond hearing in Fannin County. However, the court decided to continue or postpone the arraignment. According to Assistant District Attorney Michael E. George, the arraignment was postponed due to scheduling conflicts, saying a witness needed for the arraignment was unable to attend today’s proceedings. As such, the court plans to schedule the arraignment when the witness is available. George, though, said that a reschedule date has not been set. Speaking at the close of the bond hearing earlier this month, District Attorney Alison Sosebee confirmed Defense has filed a transfer to have the case tried in juvenile court.
“The state is opposing a transfer to juvenile court given the nature of the crimes,”
she said. The Defendant is accused of rape of an underage family member. The trial is slated to begin on May twentieth.
