GCSO Takes Delivery of Six New Vehicles

Last week, the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office took delivery of six (6) new vehicles that included: Five (5) Dodge Chargers for patrol as well as one (1) Chevrolet Tahoe which will be driven by Sheriff Nicholson.

The Dodge Chargers will be issued to officers and will be replacing vehicles with 200,000 + miles. Sheriff Nicholson’s previous vehicle, a 2003 Ford Expedition, has been reassigned and has more than 150,000 miles.

The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office has not purchased any new vehicles since 2010.

The purchase price of the Dodge Chargers was approximately $23,000 each with equipment costs adding approximately $11,000 per car. The purchase price of the Chevrolet Tahoe was $32,000.

Sheriff Nicholson states,

“There’s a reason we went with the Dodge Charger instead of the new Ford police vehicle, simply put, money. There was approximately $5,000 difference in the Dodge compared to any other police vehicle with the Dodge being less expensive.”
