Three Rivers Unit, Gilmer County Policy & Rules:
Staff , volunteers and visitors will follow established policies and rules and we expect Club members to do the same. The following policies and rules govern our time together and are used in implementing our “three strike” policy.
1. Respect for Others
a. Keep your hands to yourself. Do not sit on laps, hang on people or attempt to pick them up.
b. THROWING a punch or RETURNING a punch results in an automatic suspension.
c. Staff, volunteers, visitors and Club members are expected to use appropriate tone of voice and language at all times. This is especially true when an issue occurs and conversations must take place with all parties involved.
d. Foul language or words deemed inappropriate and name calling will NOT be tolerated.
e. NO horseplay.
f. Appropriate instructions and requests by staff and authorized volunteers should be followed.
g. Personal items are OFF LIMITS to others. All personal items should be labeled.
2. Personal Responsibility
a. ASK FOR HELP BEFORE YOU SPEAK OR REACT to an emotional situation or event.
b. Members are responsible for replacement of lost or damaged equipment and supplies.
c. Club members are encouraged to report any negative behavior whether or not they are involved. Bullying takes place when no one steps in and asks for help!
3. The Basics
a. No Drugs or smoking on the premises.
b. Personal cell phones are NOT to be used during Club hours. Club phones are available for members to use, if needed. Parents will be contacted by a staff member in case of emergency. Parents are encouraged to contact the Club if communications are needed with the child.
c. No running except in the gym or outdoors.
d. Hats must be removed upon entering the Club.
e. Clothing and footwear should meet school standards. Flip Flops are NOT allowed to be worn for recreation activities due to injury potential.
f. Children are not allowed to leave the building unless they are with a parent/guardian, unless authorized on application.
g. Staff members are NOT allowed to transport Club members.
h. All activities will take place with a minimum of three participants. No Club member will ever be “alone” with another staff, Club member, volunteer or visitor.
THREE STRIKES and we have a conversation with parent/guardian. This is the system we use at the Club to help your child understand their responsibility for following rules and for being a part of the community both here and in the world. “Strikes” are administered by Staff only after several attempts at EACH LEVEL are made to have the child respond in a positive and proper manner. (The STRIKE BOARD is located on the front easel if you want to check the daily status.) If a “third strike” is issued, a conversation will be held with the parent/guardian at the time they are picked up in the afternoon. Should a child have two straight days of “three strikes”, a one day suspension will be issued. “Three strikes” are issued immediately for any emotionally charged physical confrontation that takes place when either child fails to request assistance from a staff member when an incident occurs resulting in an immediate one day suspension.
