Ruby Barkwell : Obituary

Ruby Mallory Stone Barkwell passed away on Sunday June 30, 2013 at the age of 94. Mrs. Barkwell was born in Chipley, GA, where she lived until her marriage to Neil DeLoss Stone in 1937 when she moved to Canton, GA.

In 1944 she joined the many women who worked at Bell Bomber Plant in Marietta, GA building military aircraft for the World War II effort. When the war ended in 1945, she and her husband and 3 young children settled in Smyrna where they lived for 20 years, She married Joe E. Barkwell in 1962 and moved to Austell, GA. She retired from Lockheed Aircraft Co. after 35 years of employment. In 2002 she moved to Ellijay where she lived until her death.

She is preceded in death by husband, Joe E. Barkwell, her son, Neil DeLoss Stone, Jr. and her grandson, Jeffrey C. Broom.

She is survived by one son, Dennie C. Stone (Jean) of Blairsville, GA one step son, Tony Barkwell (Maryanne) of Cedartown, GA, one daughter, Sharon Stone Broom (Walter), of Ellijay, GA, grandsons, Jeffery Dorris (Dana), Mark Stone. Granddaughters, Laura Stone, Cathy Stone, Denise Jarrett (Skee), Neia Gwaltney (Tom), Malinda Gillespie. Step grand daughters, Janis Ortiz (Alex), Cheryl Morris (Lewis), Teri Sulivan (Mike), Kelly Barkwell and Erin Barkwell and 27 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday July 3rd at 3:00pm from the Powder Springs Memorial Garden at 4157 Atlanta Street, Powder Springs GA. with Rev. Joe Conyers officiating.

The family will receive friends Wednesday July 3rd from 11:00am until 12:30am at the Bernhardt Funeral Home.
