Mr. Gene Crawford age 86 of Kell St Ellijay died Thursday July 4, 2013.

Mr. Crawford was born January 23, 1927 in Albany, GA the son of the late Thomas Coleman and Elsie Barber Crawford. He is a retired credit supervisor with GMAC, a US Navy veteran serving in WWII, a member and Deacon of First Baptist Ellijay, Past President of the Ellijay Lion’s Club, Sunday School Teacher, member of the American Red Cross Disaster Team, and former Director of Habitat for Humanity. In 1995 he and his wife were honored by the Georgia legislature as Georgia Volunteers of the Year for Gilmer County by House Bill # 262. Mr. Crawford is preceded in death by parents and a brother William Holt Crawford.

Survivors include: Wife: Alene Johnson Crawford of the home, daughter and son-in-law; Camille (Candy) and Mike Day, Ellijay, Sons and daughter-in-law; Thomas E. Crawford, Jr., Ellijay, James and Darsia Crawford, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., brothers; Jon C. Crawford, Navarre, Fl, Jeff Crawford, Kennesaw, Sister, Mary Alice Crawford, Punta Gorda, FL, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday July 6, 2013 at 10:00am from the First Baptist Church with Rev .James Holt officiating. Interment will be in the Ellijay City cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Building Program of the First Baptist Church Ellijay 164 Dalton St. Ellijay, GA. 30540 in memory of Mr. Crawford.

The family will meet with friends Friday from 5 until 7pm at he funeral home.
