Mrs. Addie Joyce P. West, age 81 of East Ellijay, GA passed Wednesday morning, July 24th, 2013 at her residence. Mrs. West was born to her late parents James Henry and Alma Jesse Wilson Penland on March 6th, 1932 in Ellijay, GA. She was a graduate of Gilmer High School, Class of 1949, attended Georgia State College for Women and received her B.A. from North Georgia College. Joyce was a career educator, teaching for over 30 years in the Gilmer County School System. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Watkins West, sisters Rosa Nell P. Henson , Pearl P. Woodard, Edna P. Smith, Lucile P. Crews, Carolyn Penland, brothers William “Bill” Penland, John H. Penland, and infant son, James Henry Penland.

Mrs. West is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Don Callihan of East Ellijay, GA, Donna and Loran McVey of Ellijay, GA; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Cindy West of Ellijay, GA; Nine Grandchildren; Eighteen Great Grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; sisters, Jean P. Bucilla of Cypress, CA, Henri Ann P. Rigsby of Orlando, FL ; brother and sister-in-law, George and Carole Penland, of Minneapolis, MN; Sisters-in-law, Nancy Penland of Griffin, GA, Susan Penland of Edmond, OK. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Friday, July 26th, 2013 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with George Penland, brother, officiating. Graveside interment will follow in the East Ellijay Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brannon McVey, Chris Callihan, Adam McVey, Jacob Callihan, and Brady West.
