Mr. Wayne “Frog” Francis Davenport age 72 of the Cartecay community, Ellijay, GA passed Friday evening, July 26th, 2013, at the North Georgia Medical Center.Frog was born July 20th, 1941 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, GA, to his late parents, James Edward and Winnie Cleo Painter Davenport. He was a member of Calvary Way Baptist Church, a graduate of Gilmer High School, Class of 1961, longtime proprietor of Crossroads Grocery, and was inducted into the Gilmer County Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Davenport is survived by his wife of 10 years, Karen Quick Davenport of the home in Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law Jacqueline and Marty Pankey of Ellijay; son and daughter-in-law Franklin “Tadpole” and Kayla Davenport of Cumming, GA; stepchildren and in-laws Clifford and Debbie Ware of Ellijay, GA, Robin Sampson of Stanton, VA, Dusty Cleveland of Stanton, VA, and Melody and Ray Bright of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren Evan Pankey, Luke Davenport, Dakota Davenport, Allen Wimer, Jacob Ware, and Jason Ware; great grandchildren Raylee Elizabeth Pankey and Destine Ware; mother-in-law Justine Koon of Ellijay, GA also survives.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm Monday, July 29th, 2013 from the Logan Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Banks, Rev. James Holt officiating and a eulogy by his daughter, Jacqueline D. Pankey. Committal service will immediately follow at the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion and interment will be in the Turniptown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Evan Pankey, Luke Davenport, Dakota Davenport, Marty Pankey, Jacob Ware, Jason Ware and Steve Tipton. Honorary pallbearers will be George Green, Lloyd Sumner, Ronnie Thompson, Frank Elliot, Randall Dover, Jack Ledford, Ronnie Evans, Robert Garland, B.J. Reece, Coach John Sluder, Ben L. Kiker, and Syd Massey, along with the Gilmer High School Football Teams from 1958-1966 and the Gilmer High School Class of 1961.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 28th, 2013 from 2pm until 7pm at the Logan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Affinis Hospice, 15 Bowen Court, Suite B, Cartersville, GA 30120 in memory of Mr. Davenport.
