UPDATE Per the National Weather Service, The flash flood watch that has been in effect for Gilmer County for the better part of Wednesday will remain in effect through the morning of Thursday, August 8th. Multiple waves of heavy rain will move through North and portions of Central Georgia through this evening.

Heavy rain this morning has dumped anywhere from 3 to 8 inches of rain across portions of North Georgia with isolated higher amounts of 10 inches. It is advised that everyone monitors later forecasts and prepare to take action should warnings be issued.

After things have settled down from last week’s flood Gilmer County woke up to another round of flooding.

FYN has several reports of flooding and down power lines resulting in road closures.

The current list of roads closed due to flooding are:
Knight Rd.
Talona Rd.
Whitestone Rd. between Hwy. 5 & Hwy. 515
Roundtop Rd.
Holden Rd.
Ravencliff Rd.

Also there are bridges submerged or out on Sunlight Rd. and Whitestone Rd. North.

The South end of the county around Hwy. 5 South, Roundtop Rd. & Holden Road seems to be hit the hardest with this round of flooding.

PER SHERIFF NICHOLSON, NON-ESSENTIAL TRAFFIC ON THE ROADWAYS IS HINDERING EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO AID THOSE IN NEED, PLEASE STAY OFF THE ROADS IN THE SOUTHWEST PORTION AREA OF THE COUNTY UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!

Oakland Elementary School on Hwy. 52 East has been opened as a temporary shelter if anyone is in need.

A Flash Flood Warning has been extended for Ellijay, GA until Wed Aug 07 5:15 PM ET
