The Gilmer High School Bobcats football team traveled to Dalton to take part in some “Cats” on “Cats” crime in a much anticipated game against the region rival Catamounts. The Bobcats became befuddled by 171 yards rushing from Dalton’s Kelvin Rhodes, making his first start of the year. Gilmer gave up 307 ground gained yards to Dalton on defense, while conversely gaining 187, 83 from Tyler Bertolini.

Gilmer’s starting quarterback, Chris James, was injured early and replaced by sophomore, Thaddeus Bowers, who completed two of three passes for 41 yards with one interception.

The Bobcats gave up one touchdown in the first quarter, and a field goal in the second quarter for a 10- half time deficit.

The Gilmer offense was plagued by penalties all night, 9-123, which allowed for numerous promising drives that were stalled after yellow flags hit the ground.

Two more touchdowns in the third quarter put the Bobcats down 24-0 going into the fourth quarter. The home team added one more, while holding the visitors scoreless for the 31-0 win.

The loss puts Gilmer at second place in Sub-Region A of Region 7AAAA behind 4-0 Cedartown. The Bobcats look to bounce back with a homecoming game match up against 0-3 Lafayette.
