Francis Grover, Darsey, Jr., “Frank,” 78, died peacefully on October 15, 2013.Frank suffered from Parkinson’s Disease and spent his final days at the Gilmer County Nursing Home in Ellijay, GA where he and his wife Helen spent the better part of their last years together. Frank was born in Winterhaven, FL, was a graduate of Sarasota High School in Sarasota, FL, and made his career primarily in the soft drink business, working at various times in Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and Georgia for Canada Dry and its local affiliates, Hunt Wesson Foods, Bubble Up, and Pepsico. Frank retired from Southeast Atlantic Corporation to pursue his sports photography, business full-time. Over a period of more than forty years, Frank photographed little league, high school, and professional sports teams throughout Georgia and in adjoining states. Frank’s wife, Helen Buckley Darsey, died in January, 2011.
He is survived by five children from his first marriage and by his sister, Sarah Darsey Avary and his brother, Leonard Darsey.
A memorial service for Frank’s Georgia friends will beheld at the Bernhardt Funeral Home in Ellijay, GA on Oct. 25 at 2pm visitation beginning at 1:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
