The Ellijay City Council met last night with a few items on the agenda.Mona Lowe, Director, of the Ellijay Downtown Development Authority spoke of the annual tradition of Trick-Or-Treating in Downtown Ellijay.
Trick-or-treaters are invited to downtown Ellijay on Halloween night from 5:00 to 8:00. The event is intended for kids in their costumes under the age of 16.
Due to large amounts of trick-or-treaters it is requested that businesses or groups that are planning on passing out candy first reserve a spot with Mona Lowe at 706.635.4711. Also it is requested that those that are giving out candy from the trunk of their cars park 2-3 feet from sidewalk to allow adequate space for trick-or-treaters and those handing out candy. Groups wishing to pass out information can do so as long as the group passes out candy as well.
City Council also passed a 120 day moratorium on all signs in the city limit of Ellijay. The moratorium can be lifted if a new ordinance is passed before the 120 days are up.
The millage rate was also passed last night at 3.845. The previous millage rate was 3.552. Sharon Spivey, the Ellijay City Clerk explained to FYN that the tax remained the same and that property values decreased.
