William I. Truby, Jr. : Obituary

Mr. William “Bill” Truby, Jr., age 71, of Ellijay formally of Fayetteville, GA died Saturday November 2, 2013.Mr. Truby was born July 21,1942 in Montgomery, Al. He graduated in 1961 from Grady High School in Atlanta and attended West Georgia College in Carrollton. Following service in the US Marine Corps Reserve, he worked for nine years with Gulf Oil Corporation in Atlanta. In 1972, Bill was employed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture. The family moved to Dottie’s former hometown of Woodbury, GA where Bill was the Sunday School Director and a Deacon of the Woodbury Baptist Church. A Mason, he served the Worshipful Master of Woodbury Lodge #713 F and AM. The family moved to Fayetteville, GA in 1980. An avid sports fan, Bill spent 25 enjoyable years as a youth recreational and High School Football official. He was promoted in the late 1980s to an Assistant Commissioner position and, following 30 years of service with the Georgia Department of Agriculture, he retired in March, 2000. During his professional career, Truby was elected President of the American Grain Regulatory Officials (AGRO) and the Southern Weights and Measures Association. In 2002, Bill and Dottie retired to the Coosawattee River Resort in the beautiful mountains of Ellijay.

He is survived by his loving wife Dottie Lewis Truby, formally of Woodbury, Ga. They were married July 12, 1968 in Atlanta. He is also survived by a daughter Anna, her husband Ryan Griffith, Fayetteville, GA and their sons Jackson and Noah, and a daughter Laura Vyet and her husband, Stan of South Kent, CT., their daughter Karoline and twin boys William and Andrew. Bill is also survived by a brother, Duke Truby and his wife Kay of Mandeville, LA, a brother Scott Truby of Blue Springs MO, half-sister Margaret (Willard) Carr of Thousand Oaks, CA, Dottie’s sister Jane and her husband Mike Merrill of Ellijay and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins located throughout the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents William I. Truby, SR and Mary Lou Truby, a brother David C. Truby, his wife Vickie and their daughter Mary Katherine.

A memorial service is being planned and will be announced as soon as available.

Bernhardt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
