The Gilmer High School Bobcats wrestling team whooped all at West Hall. The Bobcats broke out the season with the first duals tournament win of the season. Gilmer took first place at the West Hall Spartan Slam Duals Tournament, finishing first out of 12 teams. The Bobcats broke out the “”Beast Mode” averaging over 50 points while giving up an average of 10 points per dual.Gilmer defeated White County, Dawson County, and George Walton Academy to win the pool. The final round featured the Bobcats beating Lumpkin County 50-16 and Oconee County 57-15.
Starting wrestlers that finished their day undefeated were Domingo Reynosos, Alberto Perez, Jacob Harrison, Marcelino Lopez, Lucas Patterson, Cameron Perry, Jaime Lopez, Nick Windsor, and Zach Allen.
The match of the day was between Gilmer’s Daniel Bautista and Lumpkin County’s defending state champion, Greg Hilliard. The match was tied 4-4 when Hilliard scored a controversial takedown with time running out to win the match 6-4.
The Bobcats will travel to Allatoona Saturday for the Blackbeard Duals.
