Mr. William Earl Barnes, age 75, of Ellijay, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013.Mr. Barnes was born January 30, 1938 in Ellijay, GA to the late Cleve and Lillie Barnes. He worked in the logging industry for over 40 years and was later employed part time by Gilmer County . He was known for his beautiful garden each summer and was a favorite vendor at the Gilmer County Farmer’s Market. Mr. Barnes was an active member of Tails Creek Baptist church for 63 years. Mr. Barnes is preceded in death by brothers Morris Barnes and Spurgeon Barnes; sisters Verna Waddell, Mary Ruth Chastain, and Edna Barnes.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Wanda Garland Barnes; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Lynne Barnes of Ellijay; Darren and Tiffany Barnes also of Ellijay; two grandchildren, Will and Abby Barnes; Sisters and brothers-in-law Bernice Barnes of Ellijay, GA Buford and Nena Pritchett of Ellijay, GA, and Charlie and Ollie Sales of Austell, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2013 from the Tails Creek Baptist Church with the Reverend Sammy Adams, Reverend Dennis Jones, and Reverend Earl Abernathy officiating. Music will be performed by Harold Sanford and Wanda Davis. Pallbearers will be Will Barnes, James McClure, Jeff McClure, Greg McClure, Larry Waddell, Chuck Crooke, Ronnie Abercrombie, Jerry Baxter, Leon McClure and Billy Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Willie Young, Ruel DeFoor, Johnny Garland, and Ronnie Garland. Interment will follow in the Tails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 4pm until 9pm Thursday, December 5th, 2013 at the Logan Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 200 W. Emery Street, Suite 3, Dalton, GA 30720.
