Clear Creek “Cats” Clean Up at Raider Classic

The Clear Creek Middle School Bobcats wrestling team, traveled south to East Cobb’s Walton High School to take part in the Walton Raider Classic. The “Cats” cleaned up placing first out of 49 teams in the 14U division and sixth out of 51 teams in the 12U division.Sam Harris was CCCMS’ lone champion, winning the 14U 235 weight class; however, Caleb Waddell and Justin Radford finished both second, at 100 for the 12U division for Waddell and 285 for the 14U division for Radford.

The two third place finishers were, Bryce Bryant (12U, 130) and Gage Stephens (14U, 80).

Four “Cats” claimed fourth place: Christian Cash (12U), Grant Ledford (14U,115), Filipe Arreage (14U, 170), and Waddell (14U, 100).

Also, winning matches for the Bobcats were Logan Bentley, Thomas Chastain, Chris Pruett, Kyle Jervis, Seth Jackson, Blake Buntin, and Evan Minter.

Head Coach, Walt Monroe, had this to say about his team’s performance,

“This was the largest tournament we have attended this year. This tournament gave our wrestlers a little taste of what the state tournament will be like in terms of competition. They competed against some top notch competition. We were able to come out on top of the 14 under division because we had kids competing hard and winning matches. Placement of course scores bigger points, but each individual match win also garners team points. Hopefully, this is also a good lesson for our wrestlers about the team aspect of folkstyle wrestling even in an individual weight class bracketed tournament. A lot of people outside of the wrestling community do not understand that the team competition is always present in folkstyle (American collegiate style) wrestling. We were really proud of our wrestlers’ effort but this tournament is also a reality check on how hard we need to work over the next few weeks before state qualifiers.”
