Walter Kelly Parris lovingly known as Kelly, age 83 of McCaysville, GA, passed away Friday, February 14th, 2014.Kelly was a native of Guntersville, AL., moved to DeFuniak Springs, FL. In 1947 as a senior football star. He met Annyce Caswell and they became sweethearts. They graduated in 1948 and moved on to different colleges. His mother called and said they were to draft him the next day. He wanted to join the Navy. He was sent to Japan for four years. He also played football for the Navy. After serving four years he returned home and finished college, earning his masters, and became a C.P.A. Mr. Parris then became Director of Fiscal Services for the University of North Carolina Memorial Hospital at Chapel Hill until his retirement.. For many years after retirement he and Annyce spent 22 years touring the U.S.A. from cover to cover.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years Annyce Caswell Parris. His son and daughter-in-law Kenneth & Laura Parris, of Slidell, LA.; daughters Karen Parris of Ft. Wayne, IN., Andrea Sorrell of Columbia, SC.; son Brad Parris of Garner NC; 2 grandsons, 5 granddaughters; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday February 28th, 2014 from the Magnolia Cemetery in DeFuniak Springs, FL. In Lieu of Flowers, Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mr. Parris. His family misses him dearly.
