Garden Club of Ellijay Flower Show Held

The Garden Club of Ellijay, an award-winning member of The Garden Club of Georgia, Deep South Region and National Garden Clubs, held its annual Standard Flower Show “Cherokee Beauty” on Friday and Saturday, June 27 and 28, at the Gilmer Arts and Heritage Association building.

This year’s show included designs, horticulture, and educational exhibits centered on the heritage and history of the Cherokee people. In all, there will be 24 artistic floral designs in six different sections, each of which draws from the main Cherokee Beauty theme; over 200 horticulture specimens from trees to the tiniest of flowers; and three educational exhibits on the uses of plants by the Cherokee for food, medicine and utilitarian purposes. Students in The Garden Club’s Youth program for young gardeners are also participating in the Show for the first time with exhibits and designs.

The show was judged by a panel of accredited Flower Show judges on Friday morning, June 27. Once awards had been made, the show was open free to the public from 2 pm – 5 pm Friday, with a reception from 3 pm – 5 pm for award winners. On Saturday, June 28, the show was open from 10 am – 2 pm, with a special reception for the Youth winners from 1 pm – 2 pm.
