Coy Ray Hyde : Obituary

Mr. Coy Ray Hyde, age 88 of the Mountaintown community, Ellijay, Georgia passed on Sunday evening, July 13, 2014, at the Gilmer Nursing Home.Mr. Hyde was born June 18, 1926 in Ellijay, Georgia to his late parents Charles J. and Sallie Ray Hyde. He was a member of the Mountaintown Baptist Church, honorably served in the US Air Force for 22 years, being stationed in the Philippine Islands, Japan, Thailand, Germany, Austria, Greenland, and several United States locations, after military retirement, he was a U. S. Mail Carrier for 18 years, and worked for Gilmer County Bank as a courier for ten years. Mr. Hyde is preceded in death by his sisters, Leona H. Parks, Thelma H. Parks, Pauline H. Wimpey, and a brother Carl Hyde.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Buren Sumner Hyde of the home in Ellijay, GA. She traveled with Ray through his military career; Daughter and son-in-law Sandra H. and Wayne Sales of Ellijay, GA; Grandchildren and in-laws, Brenda S. and Terry Wimpey and Steven Scott and Melissa Sales; Great grandchildren, Hunter Wimpey and Mattie Teague; Special great niece Joyce Sanford Wright also survives.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 19th, 2014 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edmund Miller and Rev. George Barnett officiating. Music and vocals will be by Matthew Newton, Mountaintown Baptist Church Choir, and Mrs. Mary Frances Hines. A military honors graveside service will immediately follow in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites by the United States Air Force and the North Georgia Honor Guard. Graveside interment will be held in the Mountaintown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Sumner, Mike Sumner, Keith Sumner, Hunter Wimpey, Scott Sales, Terry Wimpey, Gene Wimpey, Tim Parks, and Norman Carney.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2014, at the Logan Funeral Home.

Flowers are being accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Mountaintown Baptist Church, 510 Mountaintown Road, Ellijay, GA 30540, in memory of Mr. Hyde.
