Mrs. Sarah B. Henson : Obituary

Mrs. Sarah B. Henson age 75 of Talona Rd. Ellijay died Monday July 28, 2014.Mrs. Henson was born April 9,1939 in Dawson County the daughter of the late John Andrew and Rene Collins Bruce. She was a graduate of Dawson County High school, retired from Bellsouth and a member of the First Baptist Church Ellijay.

Sarah was active in her community, as a member of the Ellijay Lions Club, she was currently serving on the board, was chairperson for the Leo’s, helped with Special Friends, White Christmas and Veterans Day, on the Lighthouse committee and the Scrapbook committee, also served on the district board for the Camp for the Blind and was a Zone Chair,helped to organize the Blue Ridge Lions Club and was chairperson of Liberty Day.

She received many awards for her work with the local, state and district club’s including, the Melvin Jones Award, the Tom Bingham Award and in 2014 she received the President’s Prestige Award and her 14th Golden Chain. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for 12 years, where she was coordinator for the Blood Drive and a member of the Red Hat Society. Her parents, sisters; Lawana Brown, Lula Helton, daughter; Patricia Manning and son Joe Henson preceded her in death.

Survivors include; husband: Walter Henson, Daughters: Mary Susan VanDeMark, Las Vegas, NV , Julie Lynn Whaley, Sugar Hill along with 6 grandchildren, Dale Manning, Sabrina Henson, Joshua Whaley, Savannah Whaley, Sarah VanDeMark and Gunner Payton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 30, 2014 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Brown and Dr. Davis Drake officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ellijay Lions Club.

The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 5 until 9 pm at the funeral home.
