Martha Marie Meier: Obituary

Martha Marie Meier died Aug 12, 2014 peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 9, 1955 to Henry and Irene Meier in Dekalb, IL. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee with a degree in Occupational Therapy and began her career in Atlanta at Emory’s Center for Rehabilitation Medicine. Martha spent time working in home health care and then specialized in hand therapy and established her own business, Hand Therapy Services. In keeping with her high standards of care, she was one of the first people in Georgia to become credentialed as a certified hand therapist. She gave many years of service to the community and was a dedicated practitioner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother John C. Meier and his son John D. Meier. She is survived by Lisa Lovelace, her beloved partner of the home in Ellijay, GA; and her siblings and in-laws, Rita Massier, Robert Meier, Elizabeth and Harold Carney-Goeking, Paul N. and Jean Meier, and Sarah and Steve Douglas, all of Dekalb, IL. She had a special relationship with all her family and enjoyed the time she spent with all her cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Martha was full of life and light, always had a kind smile and an encouraging work making her a delight to be around. She gave generously of her time, spirit, and resources and touched the lives of all she encountered. Martha was a lifelong Lutheran and volunteered for many organizations and causes throughout her life and was of benefit to all God’s creatures. A light has gone out in this world but we are comforted knowing that she will shine even brighter now that God has taken her home. One of her last requests was that family and friends be told how much she loves them.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00pm Friday, August 15th, 2014 from the chapel of Logan Funeral Home. A second funeral will be held in her hometown of Sycamore, IL at the Quiram Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Meier officiating, and interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore, IL.

Visitation will be held from 2pm until the service hour on Friday, August 15the, 2014 at the Logan Funeral Home.

Flowers are acceptable, or donations may be made to the Homeward Bound Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 792, Ellijay, GA 30540.
