“If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts great things.” James 3:3-5.
Our Father in Heaven, we acknowledge that you have a difficult time controlling our tongues. Your Holy Spirit forms the character of Christ in us and yet the hardest part of us to conform to his image is what comes out of us in our speech. A word can change the whole direction of a person’s life when it is critically spoken. A word can also build up confidence that can chart a person’s course.
Help us all to consider the effects of our speech on others. Bless this person who now prays with the voice of your Spirit giving guidance today. If this one has been wounded by the words of someone, grant healing in the powerful name of Jesus.
Amen.
