Mr. Hertis Clay Key, age 86 of Ellijay, Georgia passed on Saturday morning, December 6th, 2014, at the Gilmer Nursing Home.Mr. Key was born March 8th, 1928 in Cherry Log, Georgia to his late parents Martin Van Buren Key and Denia Fain Key. He was a member of the Rock Creek Baptist Church and honorably served in the US Air Force for 27 years, serving two tours each during Korea and Vietnam. After military retirement, he worked as a U. S. Mail Carrier. Mr. Key is preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Key Underwood and Ellen Key McClelland, and brothers Phil Hoyt Key, Roy Key, Johnnie Key, and Charles Key.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Randall “Randy” and Martha Key, and Rodney and Debbie Key, all of Cherry Log, GA; Grandchildren, Michelle Key Abercrombie, Derek Key, Dedra Key, Sarah Key, Michael Key, Misty Larson and Shannon Merriman; Great grandchildren, Dawson Abercrombie, Jake, Kyle, Abbie, and Ashlie Larson, Kalli Bassett, and Dylan Abercrombie; Sisters, Bernetta Key Trammell of Blue Ridge, GA and Diane Key Pinson of Ellijay, GA; Brothers, Kert Key of Kingston, GA and Chick Key of Mineral Bluff, GA also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, December 8th, 2014 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charlie Mull and Rev. Jess Posey officiating. Music and vocals will be by Tracy Jenkins and Marcia Cochran. A military graveside service will immediately follow in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites by the North GA Honor Guard. Graveside interment will be held in the Mt. Pleasant “Buckhorn” Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Key, Derek Key, Brad Jenkins, Doug Underwood, Mitch Pinson, Marty Pinson, Jeff Pinson, Jim Bassett, Mike Abercrombie, Gary Cochran, and Zach Talley.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, December 7th, 2014, at the Logan Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jeremiah House, 830 Talona Mountain Road, Ellijay, GA 30536, in memory of Mr. Key.
