Mr. Franklin “Frank” Benjamin Quarles, age 91 of Ellijay, Georgia passed on Friday, December 12, 2014, at the North Georgia Medical Center.Born February 14, 1923 in Ellijay, Georgia to his late parents William Virgil and Mary Sanford Quarles. Mr. Quarles was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church and treasurer for 21 years. A honorably discharged U.S. Army Veteran that served as an anti-aircraft gunner during World War II. He retired from Tappen Industries and enjoyed farming during his “retired” years. Mr. Quarles is preceded in death by son-in-law, Emory Pankey, sisters, Ida Burgess, Ruth Witherow, Reba Burgess, Linda Burgess, brothers, George, Luke and Reed Quarles.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Leoma Burgess Quarles of Ellijay, Georgia, son, Michael Quarles of Ellijay, GA, daughter, Lois Pankey of Springfield, OH, grandchildren, Ava A. Trinkler, Timothy Arnold, Benjamin Arnold and Theresa Pankey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday December 14th, 2014 at the Crossroads Baptist Church with the Rev. Emmett Burgess and Rev. Billy Dotson officiating. Music and singing will be by Mrs. Rosalee Burgess. Graveside Interment will follow in the Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery with Gary Burgess, Shannon Burgess, Ken Burgess, Sonny Dotson, Jim Dotson and Donnie Burgess serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the Logan Funeral Home.
