Crystal Green Memorial Scholarship Applications Due March 31

Applications for Blood Assurance’s Crystal Green Memorial Scholarship Program are due by March 31. High school seniors enrolled in schools that host Blood Assurance blood drives through the High School Lifesaver Challenge (formerly Project Lifeline) program will be eligible to apply. Students must have a “B” average or better and at least a 20 on the ACT or 1100 on the SAT. More eligibility requirements can be found online at www.BloodAssurance.org. The Crystal Green Memorial Scholarship Program currently provides twelve one-time scholarships of $1,500 each. Since its inception, 166 Crystal Green Memorial Scholarships have been awarded to students throughout Blood Assurance’s service area. Scholarships are paid directly to the student’s college or university of choice. For more information about the scholarship program, contact Bonnie Phillips at Blood Assurance 800-962-0628 extension 1134 or BonniePhillips@BloodAssurance.org.

Crystal Green was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, and throughout her life she had to have numerous platelet transfusions. She underwent a bone marrow transplant to help her body fight the anemia. However, in November 1998 Crystal lost her battle, shortly after turning 21 years old. The following year her family established the scholarship in her memory through Blood Assurance.

Blood Assurance, headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a non-profit regional blood supplier to over 75 health care facilities in a five state region. Every day the area’s regional blood center needs at least 540 units of blood from volunteer blood donors to meet the needs of these hospitals.

Scholarship applications and information about Blood Assurance can be found online at www.BloodAssurance.org. Applications may also be available from high school guidance counselors. All applications must be uploaded, postmarked or received by Monday, March 31, 2015 to be considered.
