Captain Sam Burrell of Ellijay, past commander of the 507 Ellijay Civil Air Patrol Squadron, assumes command of Group 5 during ceremonies officiated by Colonel Richard Greenwood, Georgia Wing Commander.Following the ceremonies, current 507 squadron commander, Captain Lex Fisher stated,

“We are very happy to have the continued support of Major Burrell as he continues to serve the Civil Air Patrol. In his expanded role, Major Burrell will have overall responsibility for six north Georgia squadrons to help the units perform to CAP standards and be prepared to participate in missions as directed by the Air Force and the Georgia Wing”.

Colonel Greenwood, assisted by Cadet/Captain Hannah McSwain, presents the command flag to Sam Burrell who was promoted to major during the ceremony.
