Matthew 6:7-8 “And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
O Lord, Our Lord, this scripture teaches us that prayer is not made effective by it length or by its repetition. Empty words that are unconnected to the heart have no effect but to tire us and disgust you. They fool us into thinking that we have prayed when all we have done is talk to ourselves.
Help us to pray with passion of soul and in accord with scripture. Grant that we may truly talk to you in our prayers as we present the ministries of your kingdom, the needs of others, and our own personal desires.
Thank you for knowing us so personally that you are acquainted with our daily needs and desire to supply them. Even before we ask, you are ready to answer. Praise be to your name!
Amen.
