Plane Crash At Gilmer Airport

Public safety responded to an incident last night, August 4, around 10:00p.

Officers found a plane overturned just off the runway at the Gilmer County Airport.

According to Gilmer Public Safety Director Tony Pritchett, there were two individuals inside the plane, both male. Both individuals sustained only minor injuries and were able to walk away from the crash.

Pritchett states the two males reported they were in the process of taking off when the plane unexpectedly darted off the runway and had no idea what caused it.

After dealing with a small fuel leak on the aircraft, Authorities secured the site and have since turned over the incident to the FAA who are performing their own investigation.
