“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 2:14-17.
O God of our Salvation, you have saved us by your grace and expected that we should live it out in our daily lives as evidence to others of your power to redeem a lost soul. A faith that has no change in life graces is just a mere exercise in formality and has no conformity to Christ. But a heart that is transformed is focused on the needs of others and works to meet their needs.
Words of compassion are empty shells without doing something to alleviate the suffering of others.
Give us the ability to have a human touch with a divine purpose today. Through Christ, our Lord, we can do this.
Amen.
