Ellijay City Council Interviews: Larry Robinson

  • Why are you running?

“I’ve been in business in Ellijay for over 10 years. I have been a part of the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce, The Downtown Ellijay Merchants Association, and the Downtown Development Authority. I’ve been involved with positive changes and recognize other areas that could benefit. Since I have knowledge of that, I would be a good choice. I’ve been visiting this town since the 1960s. I want to continue to make good changes.

 

 

  • What are your qualifications? Any other posts in Local government?

“ I have served 3 years on the chamber board and as President of the DEMA (Downtown Ellijay Merchant’s Authority) for 2 Terms. I am also on my 2nd term of Chairman of the Board of Downtown Development Authority.”

 

 

  • What is one thing you hope to accomplish if (re)-elected

“I hope the council can all work together to get engaged with the business owners within the city and work closely with the downtown development authority.”

 

  • What services, If any, would you take away or add to the city of ellijay?/Would you increase spending with any line item?

“I am comfortable with the current services and their funding.”

 

  • With added services, there comes a need to balance the budget, what would you do to balance the budget?

“I would use funds from the Downtown Development Authority’s budget because the improvements would help to better the community and businesses.”

 

 

  • What sort of program(s) or policy(s) would you institute to encourage growth in Ellijay?

“I would continue to work with the Downtown Development authority to try attaining façade grants to improve facades and work on moving Harrison Park into the final stages of development.”

 

  • What sort of policies do you support dealing with the amount and type of liquor that can be dispensed in the city limits and

“I support the current policies.”

 

 

 

  • Do you want only certain ways to dispense alcohol within the city limits?

“I support what is currently in place.”

 

 

  • Do you Support Sunday Liquor sales?

“Yes”

 

  • Are you for any limitations as to where alcohol is sold

“I do support the restrictions to distance from the schools.”
