Mr. Don Norman Estes: Obituary

Don Norman Estes, 66, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away on November 18, 2015. He was born in McKinney, Texas, on January 22, 1949, to Vern and Reba Estes. Don served in the United States Marine Corps’ special operations forces, known as Force Recon, in the Vietnam War and returned to Texas in 1968.

Don married Sherry Ward Estes on December 9, 1977. He was co-owner of B&L Supply in Henderson, Texas. In September of 1991, he began working for Satterwhite Log Homes in the Longview office. Don and Sherry moved to Ellijay in October 2006 so Don could serve as the general manager of the Eastern Division.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and entertaining his friends and family. Don had a contagious smile, made everyone around him feel welcome with his special sayings, and was certainly a gift to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Sherry, his son Curt and wife Katherine Estes of Austin, Texas, his sister-in-law Karen Beck of Baytown, Texas, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Carey and Joan Ward of Longview, Texas.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Satterwhite Log Homes in Ellijay on November 27, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the American Legion Post 82, 297 Legion Rd, Ellijay, GA 30540 or Ellijay Downtown Development Authority ( Boardwalk) 197 N Main, Ellijay, GA 30540.
