Even an early-morning rain shower failed to deter the first-ever Clear Creek Middle School baseball try-outs which got underway yesterday at Field 2 of the Gilmer County Recreation and Parks Department.

According to head coach Matt Banks, 40 players from sixth, seventh and eighth-grade turned out for the first day of a planned three-day tryout session. Banks had players showing off their fielding, bunting, batting and speed abilities.
Cuts will be made accordingly throughout the week, with the team looking to carry 16-17 players for its first season. Games will be played at Field 2 of the GCRPD and the 12-game season begins Feb. 22, at home against Sonoraville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
